Broad currents of honeyed amber feather out and lose themselves in pale sapwood, the way a river spends the last of itself meeting the sea. Both edges wander in slow bays, left exactly where the tree drew them. It settles into a room and, without a sound, holds it.
A single width of Suar, both live edges as the tree drew them. No join anywhere in the top.
The rain tree. Planted for shade across Java, it grows outward rather than upward — wide enough that a dining top comes off one trunk. A slab this wide has stood for decades.
