A dining table is met at its edge; a coffee table is seen whole. From the sofa you look down onto the entire slab at once — every growth ring circling the heart, every bay and lobe of the live edge, the pale shoreline where sapwood meets the room. At this height, closer to the floor and always in sight, the wood is not a surface you sit at. It is the view.
So the living room deserves the single-slab idea as much as the dining table ever did. A coffee table is the room’s centre of gravity — sofa, chairs and light all arrange themselves around it — and one uncut piece of suar, low and wide and polished still, holds that centre without asking for it.
The Lagoon — our suar wood coffee table
There is one live edge coffee table in this catalogue, and that is deliberate: one piece, made once. The Lagoon is a free-form slab of Indonesian suar whose rings turn inward toward an off-centre heart — still water seen from above — kiln-dried, sealed, and offered in two forms. The slab in the photographs is the slab you keep.
Choosing a live edge coffee table
Two measurements decide whether a coffee table feels inevitable or in the way. Length first: aim for roughly two-thirds of your sofa’s length — long enough to serve every seat, short enough to walk around, so a 210 cm three-seater wants about 140 cm of table. Height second: the top should sit level with the seat cushions or just below, which for most sofas means 40–45 cm from the floor.

What height should a coffee table be next to a sofa?
Level with the sofa’s seat cushions, or a few centimetres below — that is the height at which a cup goes down without a thought. Most sofa seats sit between 40 and 45 cm from the floor, and The Lagoon stands 40 cm tall, which places the slab comfortably within reach of almost any sofa it faces.
Is suar wood durable enough for a coffee table with children?
A coffee table takes more daily contact than any other piece in the house, and suar is well matched to it: a dense tropical hardwood, kiln-dried and sealed under a PU and melamine finish. Spilt juice, wet glasses and sticky fingers wipe off the sealed surface with a damp cloth, and there is no oiling routine to keep up — the finish is the protection.
Can I get the same slab style as a dining table?
Yes — the same Indonesian suar, at dining scale. The suar dining tops are cut from the same wide trunks and carry the same single-slab construction and sealed finish; they simply stand at dining height rather than 40 cm. The rest are built variously — a single oak slab whose fissures are stilled with clear resin, live-edge boards laid side by side, two lengths either side of a resin channel, and one top in solid stone.
