Two lengths of dark walnut are drawn back from a channel of near-black resin, their live edges facing across the gap like the banks of a river. The grain runs in deep bands of chocolate and rust and swirls once at the heart of each board, where a knot pulls it tight. It rests on a low frame of black steel that all but disappears beneath the weight of the top.
